H αλυσιδωτή αντλία του Φίλωνα

Η αλυσιδωτή αντλία του Φίλωνα αποτελεί εξελιγμένη μορφή της πολυκαδίας. Τη γνωρίζουμε και ως μαγγάνι. Αποτελείται από μια αλυσιδωτή ταινία με προσαρμοσμένα μεταλλικά δοχεία και κινείται από έναν περιστρεφόμενο τροχό. Επειδή η κατασκευή του μεταλλικού τροχού ήταν ακριβή, σύντομα κατασκευάστηκε με φτηνότερα υλικά όπως το ξύλο, ενώ τα δοχεία αντικαταστάθηκαν από κεραμικά ή από νεροκολοκύθες. Αυτή η παραλλαγή είναι γνωστή ως «τροχός με αγγεία» ή «στεφάνι με δοχεία». Το όργανο χρησιμοποιείται ακόμη και σήμερα σε πολλές χώρες.

The chained pump of Philon is a developed form of the polykadia. We also know it as «mangani». It consists of a chained tape (strip), which has adjusted metallic vessels in its periphery, and moves by a rotating wheel. Due to the fact that the construction of a wheel of metal was very expensive, soon it was replaced by cheaper materials, such as wood, while the vessels were replaced by ceramics or pumpkins. This variation is known as «wheel with pots» or «cluster of pots». The instrument is used even today in many countries.
